our Platform is currently being revised. To participate in this discussion,

Your opinion is needed to ensure a Platform that accurately reflects the views of the entire County membership!
Our general principles, which will be reflected in our revised County Platform, are:
We have the right to insist that our county and city tax dollars are spent wisely and honestly to benefit the voting public. Local government spending must be transparent, unbiased, honest, and effective.
Traffic and transportation are two of the most critical issues Harris County faces. We need a clear, forward-looking plan for handling increased traffic while maintaining our quality of life.
Hand-in-hand with traffic go urban and suburban development issues. We need to ensure that future growth does not endanger the standard of living we hold dear.
Also related are the ever increasing demands on our public services; schools, fire departments, police, and utilities. To ensure these vital services function when needed, we need local government that understands the issues and is able to put politics aside to ensure adequate funding while ensuring the we get what we paid for.
A quality education is not a right, but a necessity. Our future...our children...depend on our schools' ability to teach them the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful. Good schools aren't cheap, the cost of a failed education system is even higher in the long run.
We've all seen the devastation wreaked by flooding in our city, county, and state. The cost of recovery from a devastating flood is astronomical, both in real dollars and in the emotional toll. Our local government must take a long-term view toward minimizing the future impact of storms like Allison. No area can be made "flood-proof", but investment in our future through effective flood-control measures can go a long way toward reducing the effect.
